  • A good rule of thumb is that most perennial plants can be cut back in the fall.

    Most shrubs should be pruned during winter when they are dormant.

    Most trees can be pruned all year without much impact, the best time to trim is winter.

  • Under ideal conditions, rye grass will germinate in 7 to 10 days. Kentucky blue grass takes about 3 weeks to germinate.

  • Let the grass grow to 4 to 6 inches before the first mow. This will help the grass be better established and heartier.

  • Milorganite is the safest, most cost effective way to fertilize your plants, trees, and shrubs.

  • Weed barrier installed under the mulch will not keep weeds away for long. The mulch will decay into soil on top of the weed barrier, and weeds can grow from that soil. This ultimately negates the effects of mulch.

    We at M.Y. Landscaping recommend installing new mulch every 2 years for optimum weed prevention!
